As per the initial design, it still retains the pentagonal shape with bastions located at the vertices, all surrounded by a now dry moat. It has a main door open to the north decorated with a monumental facade in Angera stone and a smaller door facing south. Over time it has been used for various purposes: barracks, prison for political crimes and even as a place for executions.
