The Pilotta, one of the most historically rich monumental complexes in Parma
San Nicola is from Parma as… The Pilotta.
Built in the late 1500s in the Renaissance style, the Pilotta is a historic building that we could not forget among the city’s most representative monuments. We find it between Piazzale della Pace and Lungoparma in the historic heart of Parma.
Inside we find the National Archaeological Museum, the Galleria Nazionale, the Biblioteca Palatina, the Museo Bodoniano and the Teatro Farnese.
Its particular name comes from the Basque pelota game practiced by the Spanish soldiers who stationed in Parma under the orders of Commander Alessandro Farnese.
We can consider the Complete Monumental Pilotta a must-see that tells the story and traditions of the “Petite Capitale.”
Given the amount of culture we find within its rooms we recommend a guided tour cm-pil@beniculturali.it.
