San Nicola is from Parma as ..lI Battistero
Designed and built by Benedetto Antelami at the end of the 1100s, the Battistero is the Catholic place of worship designed for the baptismal rite. We find it in the immediate vicinity of the Cathedral, standing out in the square for its distinctive color… Pink! To give it this tone, the precious marble from Verona was used.
The Battistero of Parma is a significant monument for Italian historical architecture as it marks the transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic style. It is rich in symbols, emblems, and references to Christian iconography.
But what not everyone knows is that in the southeast part of the building, we find a mark resembling an imprint… It is said that it was the Devil himself who made it in an attempt to destroy the Baptistery, seized by a moment of envy for its extraordinary beauty.
