The Benedictine complex comprises various buildings, including the church, the monastery and the ancient apothecary, and can be found along Piazzale San Giovanni.

L’edificio è antichissimo, fu infatti costruito nel 980 dal vescovo Sigefredo al posto di un oratorio. Neanche mille anni dopo però fu distrutto da un incendio per poi essere ricostruito e ristrutturato.

The young Correggio was strongly sought after to decorate the interior architectural spaces, while the marble façade of the church was designed in late Mannerist style in the early 1600s.

The bell tower on the right side was added in 1613 and, at 75 metres high, is considered the tallest in Parma.
