San Nicola è di Parma come…the Castagnaccio

Castagnaccio is a traditional dessert from the Apennine areas of Emilia Romagna, Piedmont and Liguria, a “poor” dish because it was originally prepared by farmers in mountainous areas with the only food they had at this time of year, namely chestnuts. Sometimes it was enriched with milk instead of water, pine nuts or raisins.

In Parmesan dialect it is also called “Pattona”!
