Cheerful and carefree the colorful streets of Downtown

San Nicola is from Parma as… The colorful streets.

There are some streets in the city that are jaw dropping! On clear summer days or misty autumn days, the effect is always the same…. Walking these streets makes one feel buoyant and carefree. It seems that Parma along these streets wants to downplay and poke fun at itself given the monumental intensity that dominates throughout the city.

There are several of them scattered throughout the urbanized area, some historic others recent. We find them tucked away in the area that leads away from the cathedral away from the center, or the same Via Massimo D’Azeglio home of the city’s student Movida or even Via della Salute wanted by Luisa Maria di Borbone at the turn of the 1800s and early 1900s. The Duchess’ intentions were to build, in the area that was then devoted to vegetable gardens, comfortable and healthy townhouses for the people. Today the result is a street in Oltretorrente that is visited as a historical monument of the City.
